What regenerative medicine do you offer at American Pain and Wellness?
At American Pain and Wellness, we specialize in regenerative medicine when it comes to the treatment and management of spine pain. Regenerative medicine is defined by its primary goal of replacing or repairing damaged tissue by creating new, functional tissue; regenerative medicine works by restoring damaged, diseased, or degenerating tissue that is not adequately healing on its own. When it comes to treating musculoskeletal problems, regenerative medicine is usually used in the treatment of ligament or tendon injuries, healing cartilage damage, or by slowing the progress of arthritis.
There are a variety of therapies which are used in regenerative medicine, which may include cellular therapies and tissue engineering, among others. All of these therapies work by helping aide the body’s natural healing and regenerative abilities. Certain examples of regenerative therapies include injection therapy, alpha 2 macroglobulin therapy, amniotic tissue allografts, exosomes, and a variety of cell therapies. Studies have shown that these therapies hold promise and that specific treatments may provide an alternative to more traditional and invasive options, such as surgery.
Our focus here at American Pain and Wellness are on exosomes – injection therapies (PRP), and amniotic tissue allografts. It is important to note that these treatments have the potential to help relieve pain, but that these may take days to weeks to months to show full results.
Cell therapies can contain beneficial substances that can help with the reduction of inflammation and pain, while also working with the body to speed regeneration and healing. The two primary sources of cell therapies are: bone marrow aspirate (BMA), which can be used in the repair of cartilage, ligaments, arthritic joints, and discs or joints in the spine; and fat (adipose) derived cells, which can be used in the treatment of cartilage, ligament, joint, or spine related issues.
With injection therapy cells are injected into specific musculoskeletal areas to help heal tendon injuries, ligament injuries, muscle tears, joint or cartilage damage, and also potentially into spinal discs or joints. Another benefit is that cells can also be used to help with pain reduction and to regenerate joints that have been damaged by arthritis.
The amniotic fluid and sac have high concentrations of certain beneficial substances, which include collagen, amino acids, cellular components, growth factors, carbohydrates, and cytokines – all of which are important to the healing process. Purified amniotic tissue has been demonstrated to help with the repair of soft tissue, inflammation reduction, minimize the formation of scars, and also possess antimicrobial properties. The amniotic tissue allografts are injected into the area which is in need of repair and aide with the repair and rejuvenation of tendons, ligaments, and cartilage in a variety of musculoskeletal areas – including the spine.
